Everyone Should Podcast
If you’re living in the 21st century, and you’re not constantly learning, its not because you can’t afford it, it’s because you’re choosing not too. Here is a big reason why:
Podcasting. Everyone should podcast. What I mean is that everyone should redeem their iPhones and iPods and iPads for the Kingdom by utilizing one of the great untold gems of this age.
What is a podcast? It’s simply audio that broadcasters post in iTunes and other networks that allows others to download it for free when it is available.
Most people use iTunes. So what you do is you go into iTunes, click on the store, go to Podcasts and then find your favorite program. Typically broadcasters will post links to this place in iTunes directly on their site.
Now, today, almost every church in America, big and small, is a broadcaster, and therefore a podcaster. Which means you have access, if you want to, to content from some of the best preachers in America.
And did I mention this was free? I’m a preacher and and an author, so I’m regularly in need of preaching to preach to me, so I can feed those God has called me to serve.
So I always have four or five guys that I subscribe to. Right now in my iPhone I’m listening to:
Ray Pritchard – Keep Believing Ministries
Dr. Michael Easley – Fellowship Church in Nashville
Family Life Today with Dennis Rainey
Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast
Chip Ingram – Living on the Edge
Tim Keller – Redeemer Presbyterian Church
I typically shake it up. In the past I’ve subscribed to Chuck Swindoll, Andy Stanley, Today in the Word (Moody), Focus on the Family, Chris Fabry Live, Walk in the Word (James McDonald), among others.
You an also get great chapel messages and even lectures from just about every seminary. You can subscribe to unique podcasts with great guests, like Al Mohler, Tim Challies, and many more.
And you don’t just have to do podcasts on preaching and evangelical stuff. You can find podcasts on just about anything under the sun, including cooking, fishing, golf, marriage, news, politics, and a host of other things.
The point is that this is free. Think about this. In another age, to hear some of our greatest preachers, you’d have to travel across country. Today, you simply subscribe to them and hear them, if you want, every day.
Podcasting shouldn’t replace church nor should it be compared to your church and your pastor. But no American Christian should be illiterate of the Bible, because you can go deep and learn and grow for free. And you don’t have to be a techie. iPod’s are cheap. iTunes is easier to use than Microsoft Word. And for little money, you can buy a car kit and redeem your commute.
So, if you’re reading this blog and you have an iPod, iPhone or iPad or even Blackberry, Google Device, etc–you can start learning and growing for free.
So why not start?
